DIY Natural Hair Mask!
This one is the simple miracle cure. One ingredient. Go buy yourself a nice ripe avocado. Cut it in half, pop out the seed , scrape out the green loveliness with a spoon. I smoosh mine in a bowl with my hands and apply with enthusiasm to your hair. It's fun! Squish squish squish . Massage it in, roots to ends. This is when you get your cling film out and wrap it around your head and hair to contain the green magic. After a minimum of 20 mins, hop in the shower and rinse well! It works! I wouldn't recommend this for those who have fine or limp hair. But those of you with chemical damage, heat damage, general dryness and frizz can use weekly.
Vintage Combs
Check out Oh Faro , home of some amazing frankensteined vintage costume jewellery and hair accessories. Oh I do love anything sparkly that would look delightful poking out of a delicately powdered poofy beehive.

Baby Blue lowlights?!?
Wedding hair possibility?
Thank Bumble and Bumble for this one. Its beautiful - Sleek, vintage inspired yet very space age-y, and oh so flattering. I think this would be fabulous on a bride because it is so very timeless looking. Not for those who have bangs, or those with very thick hair. It would be amazing on naturally curly hair and could even be adapted to a messy version or a messy french braid version. So lovely!

Musical Inspirations
Last week I saw the new video for Peter Bjorn and John's new single "Nothing to Worry About". I LUFF Japanese street fashion, and I adore the rockabilly vintage look so this was a dream come true for me. I have been trying to convince everyone to let me give them a sky-high pomp. Check out the video HERE

Wayne's World Sunday Photo fun
A few weeks ago, I directed a photo shoot with my lovely friends and colleagues, Patty and Hayley. I have THOUSANDS of photos from the event that I am slowly sifting through, but here are some highlights
PICTURES HERE!!!!
I LOVED this shoot!!!
Would it bother you if your stylist pointed this at your head?

There are just some things that get me every time. This is one of them. The moment I saw it, I wanted it. I saw this incredible blow dryer on my friend Marjo's blog . I still can't figure out if I love it, or if it is ridiculous. Oh well, I still want it! So if you can read Japanese, I need your help ordering this beauty!
I do not support the use of guns in any other way, shooting shit will get you nowhere. The only gun I support other than this is a hair extension gun.
But NEVER underestimate the destructive power of an inexperienced stylist employing an extension gun!

Sunday Photo shoot!
I am doing a series of solo and collaborative photo shoots over the next few months. Depending on how well you know me, you may know that there are very few things in life I enjoy more than a good old fashion photo shoot. I truly love styling hair, and getting to direct my own shoots is the best. I also am married to a very talented photographer, who enjoys collaborating on projects like these.
I am going to hopefully be doing more and more over the next few months, varying from simple and pretty to ridiculous. Stay tuned for the awesomeness!
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Austin and I did a very successful shoot with the very talented and supremely gorgeous Kari. Kari is a client of mine, and I also regard her as a friend. She is hot and a very talented singer/songwriter for grinConvention, here in Vancouver. Or check them out here!
Kari came in on Sunday sporting some grown out red color and we did quite the transformation prior to the shoot. For all those hairdressers out there - I used Davines Mask, in some weirdo ash copper browns (I know). The end result was beautiful, warm and shimmery. We had cut her hair a couple weeks before, so we ended up just setting her hair and pinning in carefully to create amazing 60s sex hair. Just a little lip gloss (Scott Barnes Lipslicks in Provocative) and some eyelash enhancing and we went and shot it outside in. I think it turned out beautifully and I am really happy.
Here are some shots for you to sample!

A Kathleen link
My good friend, Miss Kathleen Lehan, is a bit of a style muse for me. She knows what's going on, she knows where to get the good stuff, and who is listen to. She told me about this fashion blog she loved and she was right to love it. It's fantastic to say the least. A street fashion and photography blog never had so much class. Check out the masterpiece that is The Sartorialist!
90s Movie Fashion Icon- Patricia Arquette in Goodbye Lover
Patricia Arquette as Sandra Dunmore in Goodbye Lover (1998). Total 90s fashion overload and I loved every minute of it. But Sandra Dunmore's look really stood out for me. I spent the entire movie oohing and ahhing over her. That little classic blonde bob to her apartment to her housewife inspired fashion.

Kevin Murphy in Vancouver
There are a lot of broken promises. In the world of hair styling products. There is a lot of total bullshit, and we are brainwashed to think that if you spend $40 versus $2 on shampoo, you are somehow going to have healthier, more beautiful hair. And that a simple product is going to enough to transform your hair from a big lump of poo on your head, to a mane of glossy waves. The fact of the matter is, what you use on your hair and scalp IS important, but at the end of the day, you are still washing these products down the drain. I believe in value. And so when the lovely ladies at West Coast Beauty introduced me to Kevin Murphy in the fall of 2008, my romance with hair products was rekindled. Amazing! A line of products designed for MY kind of hairdresser, my kind of person and something that actually has VALUE. I spent a few weeks trying them out, and can honestly say - these people are smart. They have marketed the line of products to impress the hairdresser, and to win over the day- to-day user. Clever, clean lined, minimalist packaging made of recycled materials - CHECK. Natural ingredients, essential oils, plant extracts, sulfate free and *silicone free - CHECK. Smells AMAZING, like best products smells ever, but not at all perfumey or overpowering - CHECK. It’s perfect, scarily perfect.
The line has a shampoo and conditioner for 3 different hair types. They also have a lovely shampoo called Maxi Wash that will remove any old product residue, such as silicone that is in almost 99% of hair products that are on the market right now. I have tried almost all the stylers, my favorites being Anti Gravity ( mega volume and manageability and lavender-y loveliness) , Hair Resort (a beachy texture product), Easy Rider ( a anti-frizz crème that works miracles), Motion Lotion (for curls ) and my newest favorite- Gritty Business (dirty clean hair that smells like Nag Champa). There is a lot more, but those are tops for me. It doesn’t weigh the hair down like other products, but are also quite concentrated.
I went to an informative styling/finishing Kevin Murphy event. It was packed and everyone seemed young and interested. The main presenter was David Glover, who I have never heard of. He was charming and shared a few interesting techniques, my favorite being the sewn updo. Imagine a beautiful loose chignon with no bobby pins! Sounds like a comfortable solution for brides?! I felt like I actually learned something, and have been testing out all the new techniques. I totally agree with Kevin Murphy’s philosophies on natural texture, movement and a more modern undone look to hair. We have become far too dependant on flat irons, waves, curls and beach texture is still the most current (and laughably easy to achieve) style.
You can pick up some Kevin Murphy products from Maude Salon on 4th avenue in Vancouver (604-730-9933) and check out the website http://www.kevinmurphy.com.au/ You can see pod casts from Kevin Murphy, and Kevin Murphy lovers from all over the world.
